What Losehill are doing to Prevent Animal Extinction

Being based at the heart of the Peak District, we cant help but have a certain love and appreciation for nature. That's why we are delighted to partner with Nature’s SAFE, a marvellous environmental charity that safeguards the future of our natural world and saves animals from extinction.

Our Shared Mission

The charity’s mission aligns closely with our goal to protect and enhance the environment around us, a philosophy that has already earned our hotel the Peak District Environmental Quality Mark (EQM). The mark acknowledges our support for environmental and community issues in the local area, and we want to extend this support to international causes through our new partnership.

We are dedicated to supporting Nature’s SAFE in their incredible mission and will be implementing an array of fundraising activities in order to do so, such as voluntary charges on hotel bills, competitions, and beyond.

The Nature’s SAFE Solution

Nature’s SAFE is one of Europe’s first living biobanks dedicated to endangered animal species. We are on a mission to Save Animals From Extinction by collecting, indefinitely storing, and regenerating reproductive cells and cell lines from endangered animal species.

Nature’s SAFE provides a free charitable service for zoological collections to reverse extinction. Cells in our tanks are cryopreserved in a way that maintains viability, so when they are thawed, they can be used directly for cell culture or in assisted reproductive technologies to create pregnancies in our most threatened species. We envisage Nature’s SAFE being the animal equivalent to the Millennium Seed Bank.

It costs around £100 to process one sample and financial support from Losehill House Hotel & Spa will enable Nature’s SAFE to add critically needed samples to the 85 species that are already safely stored.

What Can We Do Together?

Human activity is causing the largest predicted loss of biodiversity in 65 million years, and time is running out to prevent catastrophic decline. Following on from COP-26 last November, more companies are realising their responsibility to protect the environment and commercial partnerships with green charities like Nature’s SAFE are gaining momentum.

The work of Nature’s SAFE has an impact on a global scale and every penny donated goes towards safeguarding species from extinction. If you would like to find out how you can be involved, contact Nature’s SAFE: www.natures-safe.com, office@natures-safe.com.
